In the January 2009 issue of Central PA magazine the Phantom Diner recalls her experiences with favorite restaurants... Josephine's among them.
Says the Phantom Diner, "Another place that stunned me on first visit and continues to amaze on subsequent calls is Josephine's in Marietta.
Located in another town one might think fine dining forgot, Josephine's is as fine an international fusion restaurant as I've found outside Manhattan.
Again, the setting is impressive: an 18th-century restored log cabin with hardwood floors, exposed beams, log and stucco walls and fireplaces. It's both cozy and casually elegant.
The out-of-the-way international eateries I've experienced have usually been more wannabe than authentic, but my experiences at Josephine's prove just how wrong assumptions can be.
Again, it's pricey, but the quality and level of service combine to justify the cost.
Winning dishes include lamb stew, braised short ribs in a pomegranate grapefruit reduction, a vegetarian napoleon and veal tenderloin au poivre.
I also hold fond memories of fried oysters over a green bean and pecan salad, foie gras, steamed mussels Provencal, excellent French bread, French press coffee and desserts such as creme brulee, pecan tart and homemade ice cream flavored with liquers."
